Sometimes She Needs A Touch

By Tia McCollors

Sisters in Faith

But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.” And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. – Luke 13:12-13

She’d been crippled and bent over for eighteen years, but that didn’t deter her from going to the synagogue on the Sabbath to hear Jesus. People stronger and taller than she no doubt blocked her view because she couldn’t straighten up, yet Jesus saw the woman and called her to Him. He spoke words that set her free, and then lay his hands upon her. She immediately stood up and praised God. I can imagine that her friends who’d walked with her during her infirmity praised God, too. Still others scoffed because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath. Jesus disregarded legalism and was moved by love. Often times our sisters need more than an encouraging word, they also need a hand up. We can uplift each other with our mouths, and sometimes more importantly with our actions.

Practical Application: Encouraging words usually flow easily between sisters of faith, but lending a hand is an act of sacrifice. We may have to step out of our comfort zones or be willing to make the crowd uncomfortable so that God’s love can be shown to one. Begin to show God’s love with acts of kindness. Find a person to bless today and every day. Your simple touch may change her life.

Prayer: Lord, let my love be an action word. I pray the people I encounter will be encouraged and changed when I leave their presence. Show me the people whom you would have me to bless.

Tia McCollors is a wife and mother who loves to encourage women to wear their faith like a designer label. Information about her inspirational novels and devotions can be found at www.tiamccollors.com.
