Fulfilled: The NIV Devotional Bible for the Single Woman
God’s Guidance
By day the
How comforting it is to know God is guiding and watching over us at all times. One of my children asked me, “How can God take care of everyone? Is God magic?”
I reassured him that God does take care of us, saying, “But he’s much more than magic. He’s God, and we can trust him.”
That answer sufficed for my little boy, and it is still the answer we need regardless how young or old we are.
Some years ago I sent out a questionnaire to many well-known Christians, asking how they knew God was responding to their requests for specific guidance when faced with matters of concern. Their responses were not too surprising; in fact, there was unanimity. There are a number of ways God lets us know his will: through the Holy Spirit, prayer, circumstances (open and closed doors), inner peace, the writings of others, family and friends and, what may come as a surprise to some, even little children.
There are also many ways God’s guidance is experienced, but the one thing everyone said was that God reveals his will through his Word. When we hide God’s Word in our hearts, establish ourselves in the Bible and act in obedience, we can know what he wants us to do in given situations. The Bible is our sure and trusted guide.
Rest in the Lord and wait patiently and expectantly for him. You will experience his sure and dependable guidance. You can trust the Man who died for you.

Father, you are my guide, my life’s compass and my protector. I love you and always want to follow your lead. Without you, Father, I know that I am lost in the wilderness of this life.
