⁷ When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees^(A) coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?^(B)

¹⁵ So he touched her hand, and the fever left her. Then she got up and began to serve him.

Beware of Religious Hypocrisy

12 Meanwhile, a crowd of many thousands came together, so that they were trampling^(A) on one another. He began to say to his disciples first,^(B) “Be on your guard^(C) against the leaven^[a](D) of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.^(E)

⁶ Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little leaven^[a](A) leavens the whole batch of dough?^{(B) 7} Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new unleavened batch, as indeed you are. For Christ our Passover lamb^(C) has been sacrificed.^{[b] 8} Therefore, let us observe the feast, not with old leaven or with the leaven of malice and evil,^(D) but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
