⁹ The true light^(A) that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.^[a](B)

¹⁹ This is the judgment: The light^(A) has come into the world,^(B) and people loved darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For everyone who does evil hates^(C) the light and avoids it,^[a] so that his deeds^(D) may not be exposed. ²¹ But anyone who lives by^[b] the truth comes to the light, so that his works^(E) may be shown to be accomplished by God.”

The Light of the World

¹² Jesus spoke to them again: “I am^(A) the light^(B) of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.”^(C)

⁴⁶ I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me would not remain in darkness.
