⁸ Right away^(A) Jesus understood in His spirit^(B) that they were thinking like this within themselves and said to them, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?^[a]

⁴⁸ “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked.

“Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you,” Jesus answered.

²⁴ Jesus, however, would not entrust Himself to them, since He knew them all ²⁵ and because He did not need anyone to testify about man; for He Himself knew what was in man.^(A)

⁶⁴ But there are some among you who don’t believe.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning^(A) those who would not^[a] believe and the one who would betray^(B) Him.)

¹⁷ He asked him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love^(A) Me?”

Peter was grieved^(B) that He asked him the third time, “Do you love Me?” He said, “Lord, You know everything!^(C) You know that I love You.”

“Feed^(D) My sheep,” Jesus said.
